Profhilo is a revolutionary injectable skin treatment that helps redefine and hydrate your skin from within. Its popularly known as an ’injectable moisturiser’, which improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It boasts one of the highest concentrations of Hyaluronic Acid on the market which visibly improves your skin tone and skin laxity.

Here we go over a few reasons why it became so popular and why some celebrities are crazy about the treatment.

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is an anti-ageing, hydrating and refreshing skin treatment designed to rejuvenate your skin from within. It adds radiance, elasticity and bounce back to your complexion, giving you that youthful glow. It gives you that dewy, post-facial glow – think really plump, hydrated-looking skin.

The treatment is very popular because it is non-invasive and the results are seen within a very short period of time. Usually after just 1 treatment there is a significant difference in skin tone and texture. Another added benefit of this treatment is that there is very little recovery time needed.

You will be advised during your consultancy on the do’s and don’ts both before and after treatment. No make up for 12 hours straight after or heat inducing activities for 48 hours after treatment is done.

Profhilo works by triggering a ‘bio-remodelling’ response that awakens and stimulates the fibroblast cells in your skin to produce collagen and elastin that addresses skin laxity and sagging tissue. Profhilo hydrates the skin from inside. According to an article in the Cosmopolitan magazine dermatologists have dubbed it as “the injectable moisturiser”

How does Profhilo help with skin bio-remodelling

Profhilo attracts water into the deeper layers of the skin while stimulating the production of four different kinds of collagen and elastin. This results in tightening and lifting of the skin to give a luminous glow.

During the treatment process, the slow release of Hyaluronic acid stimulates the production of four different types of collagens and elastin which results in significant tissue improvement in skin laxity, improved tissue hydration and firmness, and smoothing and tightening of the skin.

Comprising two types of hyaluronic acid in very high concentrations, little drops are injected into the skin, and left to dissolve over about 12 hours, filling up fine lines and wrinkles and improving the overall skin texture.

What are the main differences between Profhilo and Fillers?

Profhilo and fillers are both anti-ageing injectable treatments with Hyaluronic acid being the main component BUT that’s where the similarity ends. The type of Hyaluronic Acid used is very different.

Dermal filler injections use a thicker form of Hyaluronic acid in comparison to the thinner consistency of the Hyaluronic acid used in Profhilo injections. Hyaluronic Acid used in dermal fillers is combined with other ingredients, whereas Profhilo uses a highly concentrated and pure form of Hyaluronic Acid.

Another difference is that fillers will focus on one area at a time but the Profhilo treatment isn’t restricted to just one targeted area and will actually hydrate and tighten the whole face. Once Profhilo injections have been delivered the Hyaluronic Acid starts to disperse underneath the skin, spreading its moisturising benefits over the entire facial area.

Lastly, while Profhilo treatment is also an injectable, it doesn’t affect the contours of the face like fillers. Fillers are made to correct the loss of volume, define the shapes of the face or to lift, whereas Profhilo is made to improve the quality of skin which does not give extra volume at all.

Who can benefit from Profhilo?

Profhilo is highly recommended for those who have tired, lacklustre or dull skin. Profhilo treatment cleans skin deep down and improves your skin tone and texture resulting in skin looking more radiant and brighter. Profhilo treatment gives skin more firmness and elasticity, and rehydrates it. Celebrities such as Gemma Collins say it makes her feel fresh.

As well as helping with sagging skin / crepe-y skin. Profhilo will help smoothen out fine lines by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, which work to deliver deep hydration on all skin types and on various areas of the body including the face, neck and decolletage.

So, in a nutshell Profhilo treatment will affectively improve:

  • Early signs of skin ageing
  • Dehydrated, sun-damaged skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Skin that’s loosing or lost elasticity
  • Skin that is thin and lacks volume and plumpness

What to expect during and after a Profhilo Treatment?

Profhilo treatment is usually just two sessions usually 3-6 weeks apart depending on each individuals’ requirements. However, those with advanced levels of skin ageing may need a further treatment but this will be determined at the initial consultation. Each session will last 10-30mins, it varies clinic to clinic.

One of the benefits of this treatment is the minimal recovery time after. Immediately after treatment, there may be pinpoint bruising, swelling and mild tenderness to treated areas for a day or two. During this time avoid massaging the face, do not wear make up for 24hrs and avoid high temperatures and any heat inducing activities such as exercise, steam and sauna for 48hrs.

Prior to treatment

Before any treatment is carried out you will need to see a qualified consultant who will discuss your skin complaints and the number of treatments you require.

A week before treatment it is best to avoid certain medications such as Ibuprofen, Fish Oils, Omega 3 High Dose Vitamin E, Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort and Ginseng unless medically necessary. These will impact the bruising after treatment. Again, discuss any medication you are taking during your consultation.

Alcohol also affects the time required for blood to clot so you may be advised to abstain from drinking alcohol the week before and after treatment.

Post treatment

It is normal for there to be redness, swelling or tenderness in the treated area, due to the injections but this will disappear gradually over a few days.

Avoid make up for 12 hours after treatment.

It is advised to apply a cool compress to the treatment area at regular intervals.

Also steer clear of any heat inducing activities for 24 hours such as strenuous exercise and spas, saunas and hot showers.

Do not book any further treatments such as facials, waxing, chemical peels or microdermabrasion for 2 weeks after treatment.

How quickly are Profhilo treatment results seen and how long will last?

Some changes will be noticeable even after the 1st treatment however full results will be seen after your second treatment. Results will last approximately 6 months depending on the level of correction needed so maintenance is advised approximately every 6-9months

Why do people like Profhilo?

Profhilo has a unique ability to enhance collagen AND elastin formation, whereas most other injectable skin treatments like Skin boosters have been shown to only build collagen. Both collagen and elastin fibres form the scaffold and structural support for our skin and both of these structures deplete as we age. Profhilo therefore addresses both these aspects of ageing in the skin that conventional treatments have not been able to achieve. These benefits lift the skin and improve skin firmness, elasticity and tightness.

In an article, celebrity beauty editor Lucy Partington also says Profhilo treatment has made a big difference with application of her make up and its staying power.
