Contraindications & Side Effects

While laser hair removal is extremely safe, it is a medical procedure.

Side Effects: You may experience mild redness (erythema) or slight swelling around the follicles immediately after treatment (perifollicular oedema). This usually subsides within 2–24 hours.

Who Shouldn’t Get It:

Pregnant or breastfeeding women (due to hormonal fluctuations).
Those currently taking photosensitive medication (e.g., certain antibiotics or Roaccutane).

Clients with a suntan (natural or fake) must wait until the tan fades to avoid pigmentation risks.

Your Treatment Journey: What to Expect

The Consultation & Patch Test Before we begin, you will have a free consultation with our laser specialists. We assess your hair type and skin tone to calibrate the XLase Plus settings. A patch test is mandatory 48 hours prior to ensuring your skin reacts safely.
Preparation You must shave all areas to be treated approx 24 hours before your appointment. Do not wax or pluck, as the laser needs the hair root to be present. Avoid sun exposure and fake tan for at least 2 weeks prior.
The Procedure Your practitioner will mark out the areas (grid method) to ensure no patch is missed. Cooling gel is applied to protect the skin and aid the laser’s glide. You will wear safety goggles. The sensation is often described as a “hot flick,” but the integrated cooling tip of the XLase Plus makes it highly tolerable.
Aftercare Aloe vera gel will be applied to soothe the skin. Avoid hot showers, saunas, gyms, and tight clothing for 24–48 hours. SPF 50+ is essential on any exposed areas.

FAQs

Is it safe for dark skin tones?

Absolutely. The XLase Plus is designed with inclusive technology. The AlexPro handpiece mixes wavelengths to safely treat darker phototypes, and we also have access to Nd:YAG settings which bypass surface pigment to target the hair root without damaging the skin.

How many sessions will I need?

For the full body, we generally recommend a course of 8 to 10 sessions. These are spaced 4–6 weeks apart for the face and 6–8 weeks apart for the body to catch the hair in the correct growth cycle.

Does it hurt?

Most clients find it very manageable. The XLase Plus uses contact cooling technology to chill the skin before the laser pulse, significantly reducing discomfort. It is far less painful than waxing.

Can I shave between sessions?

Yes! In fact, you must shave. Please do not wax, thread, or epilate, as removing the hair root renders the laser ineffective for the next session.

What happens if I have a tan?

You cannot have laser treatment on tanned skin (including fake tan). You must wait for the tan to fade completely to prevent the risk of burning or pigmentation changes.

Can men have full body laser hair removal?

Yes, we treat many male clients. The most common areas for men included in full body packages are the back, chest, shoulders, and legs. The XLase Plus is powerful enough to handle coarse male hair effectively.

Will it work on blonde, grey, or red hair?

Laser works by targeting pigment (melanin). Therefore, it is generally not effective on white, grey, or very light red hair that lacks melanin. We will assess your hair colour during the consultation.

Is there any downtime?

There is virtually no downtime. You can return to work or your daily routine immediately. You just need to avoid heat treatments (saunas, hot baths) and intense exercise for 24 hours.
